Cappagh GAA club founded in 1917, is a rural GAA club in North Kildare.
In 2011 Cappagh Gaa have fielded 30 teams accross our different codes and age groups. Our current facilities have been at creaking point for a number of years. A couple of years ago we decided to expand our facilities to cater for our increasing membership. A new site was sourced close to Newtown Village, plans were drawn up for a new clubhouse with two new playing pitches, and fundraising commenced with a life membership scheme and various other small events. In 2010 it was clear that we needed to upscale our fundraising efforts and from a brainstorming session the sportspersonsdream concept was born. The sportspersonsdream prize in 2010 consisted of 2 tickets to every major sporting event in Ireland plus €5000 spending money. (thanks to last years sponsors O’Neills Irish International Sports co. for their help in sourcing tickets). The prize proved to be very attractive and we succeeded in selling over 3,000 tickets at €30 each. We raised €68,000.00 for our club after prizes and costs. This was thanks to our hard working committe and to the tremendous efforts of our ticket sellers. The first winner of the grandslam sportspersonsdream prize was Pat Healy from warrenpoint in Co. Down. This years draw is bigger and better with three separate draws. On top of our Grandslam prize of 2 tickets to every major sporting event in Ireland plus some events abroad & €5,000.00 spending money, we have added two extra draws, the platinum draw and the gold draw each with 7 additional prizes. This is all for the same ticket price of €30. In addition, in 2011 we have opened out the sportspersonsdream concept and invited in partner clubs from all different sporting codes, to participate in our draw. We are delighted to welcome our partner clubs Aghamore GAA club Mayo, Leinster Badminton club, Loughrea Rugby club, Lucan Sarsfields GAA club, Knockanally Golf Club and Waterford United football club to the sportspersonsdream draw. Tickets are available for purchase from any of the partner clubs and soon from the sportspersonsdream website, www.sportspersonsdream.com. Full details of the draws, and of the great prizes as well as information on our partner clubs and sponsors can also be found on this site. I hope you enjoyed learning a little about our small local club and our big sporting dreams. If you like our plans and our fundraising concept please feel free to recommend us on facebook and retweet on twitter. Better still why not try your luck and buy a ticket, You could be the next sportspersonsdream winner. |
